A Decade as a Museum

ImagineWebNoticeTen Years a Museum: Imagine!

March 2, 2018 marked the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. This exhibition highlights the artwork, which has been added to the collection over the last decade. We have endeavoured to exhibit for the first time, artwork that has great significance to the history and culture of Bermuda.

There are so many highlights one should make the effort to see, including but certainly not limited to; a life size bronze of Mark Twain sitting on a park bench watched over by a portrait of O’Keeffe by famed photographer Yousef Karsh is one. Next to this photograph, are three Bermuda works in graphite made by Georgia O’Keeffe on her second visit in 1934.

Also on view is a fine sampling of the Bermudian muse of personalities as seen through the eyes of visiting artists from as early as the mid 1800’s. Over the last decade, five collections stand out; a body of work by Bermudian Bruce Stuart, Isabel McLaughlin, the collection of Mark andTina Nash, the entire archive of the Tucker family going back to the 1700’s., and the camera collection of Dieter Waltzholtz.

Open daily, Monday-Saturday, 10am – 5pm. Admission is $5 for non members.

Group and private tours are available. Call 299-4000 or email mworks@logic.bm for more information.
